Tahira Begum High School was founded to provide quality education to underprivileged children in Hussainabad. Seeing poverty and illiteracy deprive children of opportunities, we established a school where even the poorest families could educate their children, especially girls. Despite financial and logistical challenges, community support helped us grow.

Today, we offer classes from Nursery to Grade 10, with structured lesson plans, extracurricular activities, and evening Quran classes for women.

Since 2012, our students have progressed to higher education and employment. Looking ahead, we aim to expand facilities and enhance science and computer labs. Community support remains vital—every donation, volunteer, and advocate helps us change lives through education.

Q&A With The Leaders

How did the idea of founding Tahira Begum High School come about?

Having lived in Hussainabad for over 30 years, we witnessed the devastating effects of poverty and illiteracy. Many children in the community had no access to education, with boys often falling into drug addiction or unskilled labor and girls facing even fewer opportunities.

Upon retirement, my wife and I decided to establish a school that even the poorest families could afford. It took significant effort to convince parents, particularly to enroll their daughters, but our mission was clear—to provide quality education and transform lives.

Securing funds and recruiting skilled teachers were our biggest challenges, particularly in meeting the requirements for government registration. We started by investing our own savings and reaching out to friends and family for financial support.

Additionally, my wife’s extensive teaching experience played a vital role in training our first group of teachers, ensuring a strong foundation for the school’s success.

What programs and activities does the school currently offer?

We provide education from Nursery to Grade 10, including practical science classes for Grades 9 and 10. Our curriculum is complemented by extracurricular activities such as physical training and debate competitions, held every two months.

In addition, we offer free evening Quran classes for girls and women in the community, reinforcing our commitment to accessible education.

To maintain high teaching standards, all teachers prepare comprehensive lesson plans, which are approved and monitored by the Principal. Regular assessments ensure effective knowledge transfer, with additional support provided to struggling students to help them excel.

We also encourage creativity and critical thinking by engaging students in interactive learning. For example, they are prompted to explore scientific concepts such as the differences between ice, water, and steam, fostering curiosity and deeper understanding.

What are some of the school’s most significant achievements?

Since our inception in 2012, we have steadily expanded, increasing student enrollment for both boys and girls. Many of our graduates have gone on to universities and secured employment in various fields—a testament to our impact on the community.

Additionally, our Principal has successfully trained several female teachers, equipping them with modern teaching methodologies and skills.

While it may be too early to highlight a specific success story, we take pride in seeing our students progress academically and professionally, knowing that the foundation they received here has set them on a path to success.
What are your plans for the school’s future growth and development?

In the short term, we aim to increase enrollment in Grades 9 and 10 and upgrade our science and computer laboratories.

Long-term, we aspire to expand our facilities, introduce computer classes, and provide teacher development programs to enhance the quality of education.

Yes! We are actively working towards upgrading the school to a college-level institution, expanding digital learning resources, and enhancing teacher training programs to further improve the learning experience.

How has the community responded to the school, and why is their support important?

The community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive. Many parents express gratitude for having an affordable educational facility nearby, as they would otherwise struggle to send their children to distant, expensive schools.

Local support has also been instrumental in running the school in a densely populated area, allowing us to create a safe and accessible learning environment.
